Device Net Cables and Connectors - NMEA2000®

Wes-Garde is pleased to be part of a program to offer Molex Device Net (NMEA 2000®) cables and connectors to the marine market. The technology available with the NMEA 2000® standard really moves the boater into the next generation. This system helps the user bridge the gap between different manufacturer's equipment, allowing certified NMEA 2000® product to move data seamlessly between equipment. By utilizing the NMEA 2000® standard, a single network cable replaces a myriad of cables used currently. This approach saves installation time; can elimate errors in current solutions; and most importantly reduces weight. No setup is required and no master controller is needed. Equipment can be added or removed from the 'network' without shutting it down. This also helps to alleviate a propriatary system where electronic devices cannot communicate with each other.

In order to provide a reliable link between the devices - nodes - a standard connector was chosen. Used in Industrial Networks and Automotive applications, this 5-pin type connector is called Device Net. Two versions of Device Net can be used in a NEMA 2000® build; Mini (heavy) and Micro-C/Euro-C (light). In planning the wiring the user should consider all specifications of the product used. The cable specified for the network must meet both characteristic impedance and propagation delay requirements for use as a transmission line. Also the connectors must offer environmental protection for marine applications.
