| Schurter has taken the popular MSM vandal proof metal switch with single-pole momentary actuation and expanded the line to include a version with sealed microswitch. The MSM SPDT has seal protection to the front of the actuator, as well as to the panel with a sealing o-ring. An IP 67 microswitch option has been added, which provides an integrated seal between the actuator and the microswitch, as well as around the switch terminals. The completely sealed switching unit can be used in adverse conditions when increased humidity, condensation or water seeps in through openings in the equipment housing. The MSM line of switches is extremely robust. Key features such as a stainless steel construction, with low profile mounting of only 1.7mm above the panel, combined with a high degree of seal protection and shock resistance, make them ideal against vandalism. Mounting dimensions are available in 16, 19, 22, and 30mm, depending on version. The standard version is rated 5A/125 VAC or 3A/250 AC and the microswitch carries UL, CSA and ENEC approvals. Standard or lettered versions with optional point or ring illumination in red, green or blue are also offered. |
Background
The Schurter MSM vandal proof switches were introduced in
2005 as the first product in Schurter’s Metal Line that provided switching power up to 250 VAC. The new series offered the
smallest mounting diameter and the widest range of mounting diameters in 16, 19 & 22 mm. Soon after, a version for 30 mm diameter mounting and blue illumination were introduced and
the popular ”blue glow” in point and ring illumination became
an instant hit.
Schurter saw further opportunity to expand the line with a snap
in version. The MSM snap-in switch has the same characteristics as their screw mount counterparts except for how it mounts to
the panel. Its design accommodates mounting in tight spaces
where the backside is inaccessible. The newest member with Sealed Microswitch now adds even more versatility for yet
another set of application criteria.
Applications
The completely sealed switching unit can be used in adverse conditions when increased humidity, condensation or water
seeps in through openings in the equipment housing.The MSM switches are excellent for outdoor installations where there is exposure to environmental elements or vandalism. Further, the
version with ring illumination is especially suited in dimly
lit areas.

Competition
Similar products exist on the market, but none offer as wide a voltage range. The overall
IP67 protection and the IK07 shock resistance rating surpass its competitors. As noted
below the Apem and the ITW do not offer ring illumination. The MSM is priced to meet or
beat the competition, when comparing price to performance. The MSM with sealed micro-
switch is 15% more expensive than the standard MSM.

A few types of standard MSMs with sealed microswitch will be available for off-the-shelf
sample requirements. They include:

MSM 22 5A/250V Illuminated Red
All other options offered with the standard MSM are available for the MSM with sealed microswitch. Check for custom designs including mounting diameter, color,lettering or switching capacity. A minimum order quantity of 100 pieces applies.
